While it would seem like an easy candidate for an outright remake, it appears that the Final Destination franchise will be gaining another movie that will directly fit into the rest of the series’ timeline. While studios seem rather hip on remaking or rebooting horror franchises with new stand alone stories, it seems Final Destination won’t be taking that route. We previously reported that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan were on the writing team for a new Final Destination flick, and now that we know it’s a sequel, fans can begin theorizing what direction the movie will go in. Luckily a new interview with franchise creator Jeffrey Reddick and producer Craig Perry not only reveals that the new movie will be a sequel – officially making the movie Final Destination 6 – but they revealed some of the story details as well.
The duo were recently speaking with DigitalSpy where Jeffrey Reddick explained the film’s role in the official Final Destination canon:
“I think ‘reboot’ is probably too strong of a word, it makes it sound like they’re going to change everything, but it’s definitely a Final Destination movie,” Reddick explained, confirming the film would remain canon.
“Craig is the master of coming up with crazy openings and set pieces,” he adds. “He’s told me a couple of things that happen in this one and it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s not going feel like cash-grab Final Destination film.”
Here’s when producer Craig Perry gives away some of the plot details:
“We’re toying with having it take place in the world of first responders: EMTs, firemen and police,” Perry reveals.
“These people deal with death on the front lines every day, and make choices that can cause people to live or die.”
And there we have it! The exciting writing duo Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan will be giving us Final Destination 6, a new sequel with a story that follows the world of first responders. With such a unique change in perspective from past films in the franchise, this should no doubt be an awesome spectacle and treat for fans.
